Primary Care & Health Systems
Research Domain: Primary Care & Health Systems
Primary Care and Health Systems research supports more accessible, coordinated, and equitable healthcare for all. Drawing on expertise from family medicine, emergency care, nursing, and other disciplines, our work focuses on improving how care is delivered across settings—from chronic disease management to acute and preventive services. We also study how innovations and best practices can be effectively implemented to strengthen the health system and improve outcomes.

This study examines whether patterns of past Emergency Department (ED) use among older adults can help predict adverse outcomes. Using provincial administrative data, the team will develop and validate a prediction model to support more targeted, preventive care. The project is led in collaboration with the St. Mary’s Research Centre.

In this study we will explore the experiences of racialized minorities in accessing primary healthcare during the pandemic in multicultural neighbourhoods in Montreal. We will talk with diverse black persons to understand their healthcare needs and challenges in accessing care, and how their race influences their experiences, and discuss our findings with family doctors to identify strategies to promote cultural safety and access.
