Statement on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
St. Mary’s Research Centre (SMRC) is committed to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across all aspects of our work, with a particular focus on research. We strive to ensure our research practices are inclusive, representative, and equitable, both in our internal processes and in the knowledge, we generate for the benefit of society.
We are dedicated to fostering a research environment where diverse perspectives are valued and integrated at every stage of the research process. This includes governance, partnership building, study design, implementation, dissemination, and evaluation of impact. By doing so, we aim to ensure that our work reflects and responds to the needs of the communities we serve.

SMRC collaborates with researchers and partners to cultivate a culture of inclusion that drives research excellence. We believe rigorous, relevant, and accessible research can only be achieved when diverse voices are meaningfully engaged.
We are committed to identifying and addressing systemic barriers and biases that affect underrepresented and equity-seeking groups, including but not limited to:
-
Engaging staff and communities in research and outreach efforts
-
Women and Girls
-
Adolescents and Young adults (13-24)
-
Seniors (60+)
-
Indigenous peoples
-
Ethno-cultural and racialized communities
-
People living with a disability
-
2SLGBTQIA+ community

Embedding EDI principles strengthens the research ecosystem and enhances the quality, scientific and social relevance of our work, outcomes, and overall impact of research. Building a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse research community is essential to producing innovative and impactful research that improve health outcomes and advances knowledge.
